Types of EV Chargers Available from Tektronix Technologies

An electric vehicle (EV) charger, also known as an electricvehicle supply equipment (EVSE) or charging station, is a device used to chargethe battery of an electric vehicle. There are various types of EV chargersavailable, each offering different charging speeds and features. Here are themost common types.

Level 1 Charger:This is the basic charger that usually comes with the electric vehicle. It usesa standard 120-volt AC household outlet (in the United States) and provides theslowest charging rate. A Level 1 charger typically adds around 3-5 miles ofrange per hour of charging.

Level 2 Charger:A Level 2 charger provides faster charging compared to Level 1. It requires a240-volt AC circuit, similar to what is used for large appliances like electricdryers. Level 2 chargers can add about 10-30 miles of range per hour ofcharging, depending on the chargers power rating and the vehicles onboardcharger capacity.

DC Fast Charger (Level3 Charger): DC fast chargers are the fastest charging option for electricvehicles. They use direct current (DC) to charge the vehicles battery and canprovide a significant amount of range in a short time. DC fast chargers aretypically found at public charging stations and can charge an electric vehicleup to 80% in around 30 minutes, depending on the vehicle and chargercapabilities.
